Lady Kitty Spencer Wore Five Dresses From Dolce & Gabbana For Her Extravagant Wedding In Rome

The ‘celebrity wedding’ – the kind of affair as lavish as the Met Gala, and probably put on for a similarly astronomic price tag – has largely been on ice since the pandemic started, with celebs and normals alike forced to embrace the low-key ceremony and the micro guest list. But Lady Kitty Spencer seems to have timed her nuptials for exactly the right moment because her wedding to Michael Lewis, which took place over this weekend on the outskirts of Rome, was nothing if not mega.

As the niece of the late Princess Diana, Spencer would always be expected to ‘push the boat out’ when it came to what she wore on her wedding day (her aunt’s, which featured a 25-foot train and was designed by the Emanuels, is one of the most iconic wedding dresses of all time don’t forget). And that’s exactly what she did, with not one but five dresses that were custom-made by one of her most favoured designer labels, Dolce & Gabbana.

For the ceremony itself, Spencer wore a traditional lace gown with a high neck, long sleeves, puff shoulders and a fitted corset in the style of modern Victoriana. According to The Telegraph, it drew inspiration from her mother’s wedding gown, who wed her father in 1989, as well as another iconic wedding dress from history – Grace Kelly. Kelly’s dress had a similarly modest neckline and whittled waistline, and has become a blueprint for bridalwear in certain circles (Kate Middleton was also famously inspired by Kelly).

In a video documenting the five dresses, Dolce & Gabbana commented: ‘For this unique event, #DolceGabbana created a number of exclusive hand-made gowns, each celebrating the beauty of the bride, the passion for #AltaModa and the absolute joy of the occasion.’

The clip shows the initial sketches, as well as small army of seamstresses helping her into the frocks, all of which definitely tick fairytale box, and making last-minute adjustments during what must have been the final fittings. One is made of powder blue tulle and covered with what look like falling pink petals; another has a forest green bodice and a gigantic white train. The third is white lace embroidered with yet more flowers, while the fourth, which we only glimpse for a second, looks like gold and silver sequins. Sigh.
